Privacy policy
sectionaltest.com runs timed sectional tests for CAT and IPMAT and shows you an analysis of how each attempt went. This page explains what we collect to do that, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
What we collect
- From your Google account, when you sign in: your name, email address and profile picture. We never see your Google password.
- What you do in a test: your answers, the time spent on each question, the order you visited them, marks for review, retries, and the mistake labels you choose afterwards.
- How you use the app: while you're signed in, how long you actively spend on each part of it (tests, analysis, solutions, Friends and so on) and a few actions such as opening an analysis or sharing your invite link. Time counts only while the tab is open and you're using it. We keep totals for each hour, not a moment-by-moment record, only our staff can see them, and we use them to learn which parts help students and to improve them. It is never shared or used for advertising.
- About your preparation, at sign-up: the exam you're preparing for, your target year, where you are in your studies (for example, a graduation year or Class 12) and whether you've taken the exam before.
- Problems you report with a question, and any note you add.
- How you found us: the site or campaign link you first arrived from, saved once when you create your account.
- The kind of device a test runs on: browser, operating system and screen size (not a device ID), so we can fix tests that get interrupted.
- Settings you choose: such as your display name and theme.
We count visits to our pages without cookies: each visit records the page, the site that linked to it, the type of device and your approximate location (country, state and city, worked out from your connection; we never store the network address itself). A browser is recognised for one day only, through a one-way code that can't be traced back to you and is discarded every night. Browsers that send "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" aren't counted.
When you are signed in, we also keep the approximate place (state and city) you last opened the app from, and the place each test was started from, so we can understand where students are and trace problems. It is worked out from your connection, we never store the network address, only our staff can see it, and browsers that send "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" aren't recorded.
We don't collect your phone number, precise location or payment details, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser stores your sign-in session and a few preferences locally so you stay signed in.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your account and attempts together.
- To score your tests and build your post-test analysis.
- To improve the tests. For example, we measure how difficult each question turns out to be across all candidates. These figures are aggregated and never identify you.
- To understand how the app is used and improve it.
- To contact you about your account if we need to.
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or show ads.
Who processes it
We use a small number of service providers to run the site:
- Supabase stores your account and test data. Our database is hosted in Mumbai, India.
- Netlify hosts the website.
- Google provides sign-in, and serves the web fonts used on the site.
These providers handle data only to deliver their service to us, under their own privacy and security terms.
How long we keep it
We keep your profile and all of your attempts on an ongoing basis. They keep your history and analysis available, and they are what we use to measure question difficulty and improve the tests for everyone. Accounts and attempts are not deleted. Access is restricted to the people who run sectionaltest.com, and we never sell or share it beyond the providers listed above.
Your choices
- You can see and change your display name on your Account page.
- You can remove sectionaltest.com's access to your Google account at any time from your Google Account's security settings.
Children
Many IPMAT candidates are still in school and under 18. If you are under 18, please use sectionaltest.com with a parent's or guardian's consent.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how your existing data is used, we'll tell you before it takes effect.
